Dr. Ernest W. Kornmehl is recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in custom LASIK surgery, PRK, corneal inlays, Dry Eye, LipiFlow for the treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Collagen Crosslinking for the treatment of Keratoconus.
He has been recognized as Boston Magazine’s Top Ophthalmologist/ LASIK surgeon, listed by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America, and as a Castle and Connelly’s America’s Top Doctor for 10 years in a row. U.S. News and World Report also selected him as one of the top 1% of Ophthalmologists in the country. Dr. Kornmehl completed his Ophthalmology Residency and Chief Residency at the Yale Eye Center, Yale School of Medicine, followed by a Heed Fellowship in Corneal Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. He served as the Director of the Novatec Laser Surgery Program for Nearsightedness at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, is a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School, and is an Associate Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology, Tufts School of Medicine. Dr. Kornmehl is a recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award for his numerous scientific presentations and instruction courses. He serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology is on the Executive Board and Past President of the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, is a Past President of Boston Aid to the Blind, and is the co-developer of S-K (Swinger-Kornmehl) Solution used to reduce corneal swelling. Dr. Kornmehl lectures nationally and internationally, is author of the book, LASIK: A Guide To Laser Vision Correction, is on the editorial board of Ophthalmology Times, the world’s largest circulation ophthalmic publication and Eyenet, the official publication of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has held several research grants from the National Institutes of Health and is developer of the Kornmehl LASIK System, specialized instruments used worldwide during the LASIK procedure. Dr. Kornmehl has taught surgery for nearsightedness at the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1987.
Dr. Kornmehl evaluates all of his patients personally, from the beginning of the consultation through all the post- operative visits. His number one priority is the safety of his patients. He spends extra time with patients before surgery to discuss their day to day activities to determine the best surgical outcome for them after their procedure. He also thoroughly explains what to expect with each procedure.
Dr. Kornmehls staff works diligently to assist international and out of state patients with making appropriate arrangements so their consultations, surgery and post- operative appointments are made within the same week of their stay. Dr. Kornmehl will personally research Ophthalmologists where patients reside to ensure their follow up care is being monitored by a specialist.
